Vanessa Table by Bartoli Design 3 Elegant Addition to the Dining Room: Vanessa Dining Table by Bartoli With more and more beautiful furniture designs out there, the choice of replacing a piece of furniture in your home should come easily. When in need for a new dining table, consider a contemporary alternative: the Vanessa Dining Table – designed by Bartoli for Italian manufacturer Bonaldo. Resting on beautiful elements in recomposed or stratified multilayer wood, the table has a rectangular glass table top, thick enough to support the load but elegant enough to compliment the soft-edged triangular legs. You can choose from various sizes, but the Vanessa Dining Table can also be made to measure. The walnut veneered legs remind me of the elegance of a butterfly and the natural combination of colours merged with the transparent glass offers a classy atmosphere to the dining room.

Nestled Between Cactuses: The Desert Nomad House, Arizona

The Desert Nomad House is an intriguing architecture project designed by Crosby Doe Associates and constructed in Tucson, Arizona. With a location tucked away in the desert, the inhabitants of this unusual crib are miles away from the urban racket, in an environment that ensures tranquility and serenity. The compound features three separate structures made of steel and glass: one hosts a bedroom and a small bathroom, the second accommodates a working area with an office and the third one is a living and dining unit. The interiors are highly modern and the generous floor to ceiling windows ensure unobstructed views of the desert. In our opinion, the best aspect about this place is that when you feel the need for outdoor relaxation, you have the whole desert at your feet. This 3 in 1 crib is currently up for sale here for $975,000.  How would you feel about having a permanent living space in a remote desert area? Would it be an upgrade to life in a big city?

giant digital wall Digital Wall Pushing the Limits of Interactive Technology [Video]

Usually, when we step into a huge institution, we like to have some idea regarding the plan of the building. its functions and so on. What if this information could all be stored within an engaging device right at the entrance? The digital wall in the movie below promotes Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery and, according to the producers at Zebradog, “was made in a joint effort to push the limits of interactive technology; Float 4 collaborated with RealMotion in order to challenge the limits of natural user interfaces. Two large scale interactive walls, using Christie MicroTiles, displayed multi megapixel resolutions in real-time, making these among the highest resolution interactive surfaces in the world.” Freshome readers, would you like to see giant interactive monitors at every corner, or do you feel technology is way too present in day-to-day life?

Residence with an Artistic Character: the Adams Fleming Residence by Levitt Goodman Architects

Adams Fleming House 14 Residence with an Artistic Character: the Adams Fleming Residence by Levitt Goodman Architects For the family living here, this house named the Adams Fleming Residence is the perfect place to display their fine collections of modernist furniture and contemporary art. Located in Toronto, Canada, the modern home used to be part of an industrial site, but the collaboration between the inhabitants and the designers from Levitt Goodman Architects turned the building into a fantastic up to date home, complete with an artistic character borrowed from the owners – a graphic designer and a furniture designer. The entertaining parts of the house – living room, kitchen and dining room – are completely open to the outside world and hide the more private rooms – bedroom and bathrooms. These last ones were raised on a platform that solves the problem of storage throughout the house. Another storey added to the building contains a studio space for work and where the inhabitants can also enjoy their common passion – music.  The outside space completes this home’s optimistic character: an outdoor dining room, a fountain plunge pool, a vegetable garden, a French-style orchard, and many native plants and grasses – all of these create the perfect balance between nature and human habitat.  Adams Fleming House 01 Residence with an Artistic Character: the Adams Fleming Residence by Levitt Goodman Architects

Where to Store Belongings when Preparing to Sell your Home

Posted: 21 Apr 2011 12:00 AM PDT

When faced with the challenge of trying to sell your home, while you still live in it, any advice that will help your home show better will help, right? Many home sellers forget that you aren't supposed to "look' like you live in an overly cramped home! The only way to look the part is by storing your belongings in areas that will not look obvious and therefore unappealing. If you are preparing to sell your home, use these tips to help you put your belongings out of sight… and therefore out of homebuyers minds.

  • Start packing what you don't need: When you are trying to sell your home, you have two focuses: the house you are selling, and where you are moving. A good way to store belongings is to start packing up items that are not needed for this home, and store boxes neatly in a garage or off site storage rental building.  This process will help you purge and throw out what you don't need at your next home, while clearing up open and appealing viewing space for homebuyers to see. Packing up sections of the kid's playroom, basement, and closets are a good place to start.
  • Store and organize beautifully: For many rooms of your home, you may still need to utilize items, for example home offices, kitchens, and bathrooms are all heavily used rooms. The trick in these spaces are to store items in decorative baskets, totes, bins, and utilize container store organizers to beautify your shelves and closets.  This exercise will help you get organized in these heavily trafficked areas, and will help you quickly clean up and have a place for everything when its time to show your home to potential homebuyers.

  • Ask friends and family for help: Every homeowner has a different reason for moving. Whether it is for a job relocation, to be closer to family, or to downsize due to budget constraints.  If you have a lot of large furniture and belongings, ask local neighbors, friends or family to help you store, or even sell your items. Determine if these items will really be needed, and if donating or selling them may be a more viable option. This will help you prepare for your next chapter in your home living, and may put extra money in your pocket!

  • Look at your competition: While this tip isn't about storage, it is about looking at what your competition is doing about their storage.  Often times home sellers get so involved in the "sell sell sell" mentality that you forget to go and look at who your competition is. Even if this means looking at images on the internet, research how clear and clutter free their homes are.  If you have developer home sites in the area, take a look at the model homes – they can give you inspiration of how open and inviting you want your home to feel like. Once you return to your home, you will have a clear image of what to strive for!

Storing belongings in your home while selling can be a challenge, but using these helpful tips will help you get a clearer idea of your goal. Declutter your home first and start making a plan for each room of your home. Start with rooms that have the most "stuff" and dive right in. By time you are ready to put your home on the market, homebuyers will be ready to see a welcoming home, and you will feel ready to accept offers!

Contemporary Low Maintenance Retreat in Australia: Salvado Street Residence

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 10:02 AM PDT

modern residence01 Contemporary Low Maintenance Retreat in Australia: Salvado Street Residence

Salvado Street Residence was designed by Bates Smart Architects and is located in Perth, Australia. Especially designed for a retired couple in Cottesloe, the home in the photos below is highly modern, but also low maintenance. Here is more from the architects: “The planning concept is based on a courtyard typology featuring a pond, around which the private spaces and the public entertainment spaces are organised. This duality is emphasised architecturally by separate treatments of the private and public spaces: the public spaces are open plan, outward-oriented and unenclosed spaces gathered under a floating Miesian roof whilst the private spaces are inwardly focused and enclosed within thick masonry walls which create a sense of privacy and retreat.” Responding to its climate and space, the Salvado Street Residence is said to “reveal a unique take of contemporary Australian Architecture“. Australian readers, do you agree with this last assertion?

Promoting Sustainable Thinking: Eco Museum in France

eco01 Promoting Sustainable Thinking: Eco Museum in France

If you are a fan of green thinking, then you will surely appreciate this unique project. The ‘Eco Museum’ is located in Rennes, France and was designed by architects Guinee Potin from Nantes. The building’s exterior is organic, as it is completed with a skin made from chestnut shingle. With an overall unconventional design, it is difficult from afar to decide upon the nature of this construction. The main entrance is hidden beneath an odd looking volume housing the administrative offices areas. The interior is a bit unpredictable also, featuring  eco-friendly arrangements mixed with a modern touch. Large timbers are used as support beams and wood is present all around, contributing to the idea of a sustainable environment. Freshome readers, do you enjoy seeing this type of educational public facilities?
