| Cool Cloud-Shaped Magnetic key Holder from Duncan Shotton Posted: 07 Feb 2011 05:20 AM PST Provided that there is enough room on your wall for a great design, you should take into consideration trying Duncan Shotton‘s new and fresh design idea for a wall mounted key holder. Named “Cloud”, the small helper fastens to the wall and holds the keys with the use of a magnet. When the keys dangle from the magnet, they give the impression of rain falling down from the cloud. Made from matte white jesmonite, the cloud measures 97 mm across and its embedded neodymium magnet can hold items up to 220g. A small, simple package ensures the safe arrival of the magnet to its future home. The package also contains a pack of screws and wall-plugs that help hook the cloud onto the wall using the stainless steel back plate. The first batch of 150 Clouds will be available for purchase at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, between 8 – 12 February.

| Small & Spectacular Family Home Open Towards a Peaceful Rural Landscape Posted: 07 Feb 2011 02:06 AM PST Corum Residence was designed by Substance Architecture and is a display of modern living at its best. The only aspect that differentiate this house from the majestic residences we commonly display on Freshome is this project’s dimensions. Here is more from the architects: This modest, single family residence on a four acre site was designed for a family looking to “downsize” their domestic lives. The resulting home expresses itself and gestures beyond — to the rural Iowa landscape. The elemental design consists of a galvanized metal clad “tube” gently resting on a cast-in-place concrete “plinth” and pointed toward the view. The home's simple form and materials reference agricultural buildings prevalent in the central United States. The more-public “living” spaces have direct access to the view. The private “bed and bath” functions are sequestered deep within the metal-clad wedge and concrete plinth. Internally, the home utilizes a system of maple and acrylic shelving, an open-riser stair, and a fireplace mass to vertically organize the section and link its three levels. | Freshome Readers Apartment with a Well Defined Personality in Toronto Posted: 06 Feb 2011 11:57 PM PST Alyona Polianskaia has sent us photos and a description of her apartment: This post comes from a young graphic designer couple in Toronto, Canada that see pride in decorating their living space. This 50 sq. m rental condo features a living room, bedroom, a den and a generous kitchen. The style is inspired by the couple’s cultures of Russia and Japan along with their love for clean and urban design. The living room colors are mainly black and white with splashes of pinks and reds in the playful artwork, furniture and accessories. Beautiful color contrasts are created by the ornate patterns in the living room and dining room seating areas. The daybed is custom upholstered in carefully selected patterns and textures as are the decorative cushions serving a purpose of a sofa and doubling as a guest sleeping arrangement.
The window features a cozy and stylish space as a reading nook and a kitty lounge area. The wall artwork seen in the living, dining and bedroom spaces beautifully reflects the owners’ lifestyle and taste. The dining room is inspired by the traditional Japanese setting with a modern take on minimalistic design, which further compliments the open concept of the principal living area. The den has been transformed into a functional dressing room with a nod to the Japanese design featured throughout the condo. We are looking forward to your comments and perhaps further suggestions on this unique looking crib. Thank you, Alyona!
