Contemporary Redesign for the MTV Networks Headquarters in Berlin Posted: 04 Feb 2011 06:54 AM PST MTV Networks Headquarters in Berlin received a makeover from German agency Dan Pearlman: a newly organized reception meets the visitors at the entrance, while meeting and break room areas have been redesigned to fit modern necessities. The most important feature of the space is the work-life balance currently seen at the MTV Networks Headquarters. The atrium on the first floor has been brought back to life with the help of carefully selected, fun and colourful furniture. Lunch rooms and meeting rooms house about 250 people, so it was necessary for the large space to not only bring the people together in a comfortable scene but also to establish a connection between the modern voice of the network and the sophisticated interiors. The creators of this surprising space see the renovation as an unequaled project, perfect for the network’s identity: “Greater freedom of movement and an equal variety of unique as well as private retreat zones contribute to a better work-life balance at the workplace. Whether eating lunch in the Network Kitchen, in the Blue Lounge or in the Brand Garden under a stylized canopy of leaves, there are ample choices for taking time out during the workday. Fans of table tennis or table football can of course be found in the Sport Lounge.”

Cool and Modern Building with Imposing Architecture Posted: 04 Feb 2011 05:49 AM PST Many families aspire to sometime own a single family residence that will be inspiring, open and comfortable. The Laidley House is a very good example of a dream house, with its open space and bright interiors. Having over 3,000 square feet, the residence features three bedrooms each with their own bathrooms. Panoramas of San Francisco, Bay Bridge and the bay open up from the large windows in the bedroom. The three storey dwelling is home for Jim Zack and Lise de Vito, two architects that aside from sharing a life, they share a business, Zack de Vito Architecture. They kept this construction all in the family, because the actual construction of the house was also done by one of their firms. Contemporary and imposing, the residence thrones over an impressive city, like a fortress of privacy in a hectic world. Take a look at the pictures below and try to figure out what is missing for each of you, if this were your own home and then share it with us!

Compact Home in Seattle with Spectacular Interior Decorations Posted: 04 Feb 2011 03:23 AM PST 'Laurelhurst' is a beautiful modern 2500-square foot residence designed by Jill Lewis and Lane Williams from Coop 15 Architecture and located in Seattle. According to the architects, this 1960's modern home has been expanded and updated with a new second story containing three bedrooms and two baths. The main floor plan has been opened up, with expanded living areas where bedrooms were once located. There is new lighting, plumbing fixtures, cabinets and finishes throughout. The redesign implied the maximization of space and light. A simple stroll through the pictures is enough to demonstrate that the interiors have plenty of both. This house looks fantastic, no matter what the perspective. The white walls contrast beautifully with a series of decorating elements and the overall result is that of a contemporary, vivid and original living space. Have a look and let us know if there is anything about this residence you don’t like. (Photos by Daniel Sheehan Photography)

Sublime Contemporary Residence Inspired by Traditional Japanese Architecture Posted: 04 Feb 2011 12:43 AM PST Our friends at Decoist have showcased a beautiful, modern home, with a pinch of traditional Japanese influences. Inspired by the former traditional Japanese house that used to rise in the middle of the uncommonly shaped lot, the T House generously uses the available space to the maximum. Designed by Kazuya Morita Architecture Studio, the distorted pentagonal structure is located in Tsushima City, a small village in the vicinity of Nagoya, Japan. The young couple residing here wanted a modern home with comfortable features that would remind them of their Japanese heritage without having to give up space or aesthetics. Five main structural walls separate the indoor living areas under an uncommonly shaped roof. A dome-shaped ceiling, dressed in wood, covers the bright interiors. Natural light coming from every angle is ensured by the large windows. Japanese white plaster was used to create the round corners seen around the house and all the interiors use traditional wooden construction methods. The fortunate combination between old and new has left this particular residence with a gorgeous interior design, while the exterior respectfully blends in with the neighborhood.

A Minimalist Furniture Collection Piece: The S 285 Desk by Marcel Breuer Posted: 03 Feb 2011 11:13 PM PST According to Platforma Arquitectura, few pieces of furniture designed more than half a century ago are still fashionable today. The S 285 desk with steel pipes designed by Marcel Breuer in 1932 happens to be one of them. Tecta factory in Germany is the institution which officially took the designs of the architect forward and started producing the desk again in contemporary times. The furniture piece is highly minimalist, so much so that it reminds one of desk used by state clerks a few decades ago. However, with a few inspired touches and decorative additions, it can easily be integrated in a modern interior, with spectacular results. Just check out the last photo for a general idea of how this is possible. The Breurer desk is available in white or black and its estimate price is £1,000 – £1,500 ($1,462 – $2,193).

Modern Residence Overlooking the North Bay by Prentiss Architects Posted: 03 Feb 2011 11:19 AM PST With an amazing structure that combines stone, wood and glass, this next beautiful residence comes from Prentiss Architects. The house is located in San Juan Island, Washington State and it was named The North Bay Residence. Beautiful and natural colours were used to create a connection to the surroundings. Stone was combined with wood to create an interior design that would soothe and comfort the family living here. Large windows bring the sunshine in and allow a panorama of the natural beauty surrounding the home. The wood chosen for the furniture complements the interior design and lots of lights were used to create a fresh atmosphere. Terraces offer a complete panorama of the bay just like the large windows allow the residents to retreat inside and enjoy the view whenever the weather does not allow the full outside experience.

Fresh Restaurant Design Displaying Bold Natural Colours and Fun Forest Graphics Posted: 03 Feb 2011 08:13 AM PST Fun graphics and a refreshing combination of green, white and brown have transformed this space into a fun and modern restaurant with many great details to take into account. The Wienerwald Restaurant in Munich was designed by German architecture studio Ippolito Fleitz Group and showcases a new brand identity, filled with light, colours and a strong sense of naturalness. Serving fast-food chicken and salads, the Wienerwald restaurant also surprises its visitors with a fresh interior design and bold accents depicting the brand’s strongest points: high quality service, comfort and German cuisine in a contemporary design frame. Wood and leather were used to create a natural setting that was embellished with contemporary graphics and gold intrusions that evoke the crisp skin of its main product, the Wienerwald grilled chicken. A large, white and compact counter welcomes clients at the entrance, offering food choices on suspended menu boards, above the anthracite mosaic stone wall with stainless-steel units for food display. The dining areas are visually delimitated, offering different seating options, from booths to high bar chairs and tables. All around, outlines of trees decorate the walls and mirrors, creating an open, fresh space and a selection of 15 wall plates tell the story of the brand using printed images.
