| Uncommon 2-Meter Indoor Tree of Light by VormStudio Posted: 03 Feb 2011 06:05 AM PST The Tree of Light from VormStudio is a demonstration of how a lighting object can have a massive effect of the overall look of a room. In this particular case this effect is guaranteed by the size of the lighting object in question. Found on Homedit, this unusual free standing lamp is no less than 2 meters high, which makes it a lot taller than an average home owner. Here is a description from the project developers: Imagine the sun shining through the forest… In most of our designs contrast is very important, as it is in the tree of light design. The design of this 2-meter high object is based on the natural shapes of a tree and the exciting shadows coming through when the sun is shining. The contrast in nature vs. technique and steel vs. wood. The tree of light is made out of sustainable oak or teak, the lamp is suitable for in and outside usage and comes in a stand-alone, table, suspension and wall version. Would you consider integrating such a massive lighting product in your home?

| Moonjelly, a Fascinating Pendant Lamp with an Elegant Look Posted: 03 Feb 2011 03:35 AM PST Moonjelly was designed by Limpalux and comes with a unique look. Aside from having an impressive size, the shape of the lighting object resembles a sculptural organic element or a fun origami craft. The product’s lamellar body is made entirely out of paper, which contributes to its uncommon appearance. When lit, the flashy yet tasteful pendant lamp emits a warm glow and has the ability of completely changing a room’s atmosphere for the better. Its large dimensions make it a perfect fit for a modern living room or an imaginative hallway. Due to its rather eccentric look, the product could be better integrated in a minimalist arrangement, but this is not mandatory. In the photos below you have a few examples of bold and creative interiors where this lamp seems to blend right in.

| Inspiring Transformation: Old Barn Turned into Fantastic Living Space Posted: 03 Feb 2011 02:08 AM PST We recently received information about this amazing project from Shed. According to the architects, “the project involved the conversion of a barn into living space supporting a variety of activities and guests. The program called for a workroom/kitchen, an apartment, a bunk room, and bathrooms to be arranged within the existing building envelope. SHED both designed and built the project, often living on site for extended periods of time. The familiarity with the site, building and client resulted in substantive refinements to the permitted plans that capitalized on unexpected potential as well as the execution of numerous details responsive to existing conditions. Working within the existing envelope of the barn, the design solution attempted to imbue each space with its own character through the use of natural light and its orientation to the landscape. The primary design interventions were the creation of a utility pass-thru separating the bunk room from the main work space, and the carved entry connecting the apartment to the workroom. Secondary design interventions include the addition of skylights, dormers and bay windows that developed the relationship of interior spaces to the pastoral landscape.
Each space was developed around a minimal palette of materials and color, with extensive re-use of existing barn materials. Some of these materials included the re-use of the original barn siding for interior paneling, re-milling of salvaged floor joists for stair material, trim and countertops. In a very real way, the barn was turned outside in and then wrapped in a new cedar board and batten skin that would weather and show its age well. Emphasis was placed on durability and directness of design solutions with the aim of creating practical and unique results. Re-use of salvaged cedar siding for interior wall surfaces, salvaged wood beams milled for countertops/benches and salvaged plumbing fixtures re-used are just a few of the recycling solutions found.”

| Incredible Conference Table/Office Desk Hybrid by Jovo Bozhinovski Posted: 03 Feb 2011 12:02 AM PST This astonishing desk was designed by Bulgarian designer Jovo Bozhinovski and produced by Elza Design. Here is the description we received from the developers: “The project is created as per order of a construction company from Bulgaria. The assignment was to design an office, which to be different and remembered. Constructing the functions, we had the idea to make a hybrid between the desk of the manager of the company and a conference table, which he needs in order to organize meetings with clients, as well as the working meetings with its personnel. This piece of furniture turned into and accent of this office and gave it a unique appearance. Led by the fact that the main activity of the company is construction, we have decided that we have to design a product, which to be clearly constructively built with a visible construction, a modern vision and innovation in the organizing of the working space. We have tried to embody the main principles of this construction company in a unique piece of furniture, which occupies a central place in this office and has a unique appearance.” Can you see the elegance behind a deign created by a construction company?

| Kitchen Ventilation with no Design Compromises: Range Hoods by Ammunition Posted: 02 Feb 2011 08:32 AM PST Kitchen ventilation is usually easy to achieve. But some of the devices on the market seem to bring a touch of “industrialization” to the room, as they come in large sizes and lack style. Here is an interesting approach that could help solve this issue. The Arc Collection is a line of elegant range hoods created by Ammunition Group, a design studio in San Francisco. Found on BlueAntStudio, the series consists of highly functional products, yet developed with a minimalist design: the Arc Collection delivers compact power and sophistication to the kitchen. Based on simple forms and material layering, the hoods feature large, back-painted glass. If you are looking for a sober kitchen, then black and white are the versions for you. Otherwise, you can chose between the available vivid colors or go for a customized finish.
