| Wardrobe and Sauna Combined: Badkast by Anna van der Lei Posted: 01 Feb 2011 07:36 AM PST Badkast was designed by Anna van der Lei and has a few unusual characteristics. It can be used as a wardrobe, being able to accommodate outfits neatly organized on clothes hangers, but it can also serve as an indoor sauna. Here is a description from the designer: The Dutch version of the Finnish sauna. You do not have to have a large garden or a great deal of space to accommodate it: the dressing room and the bathing space are integrated in a single large closet made of larch wood. The specially designed joints expand when they become wet, ensuring that the bath closet remains fully watertight. The wood, taken from a single larch tree, gives out a pleasing pine aroma when the bath is filled. The doors at both the front and the back of the closet can be opened. You hang your clothes above the bath, so they are gently steamed while you are bathing. We salute this idea found on DigsDigs and consider this product quite original. We would be interested to know what you guys have to say regarding its functionality.

| Charming Victorian Makeover with a Welcoming Interior Design Posted: 01 Feb 2011 03:23 AM PST A Victorian terrace house in the heart of Paddington needed a makeover and what resulted from the work of Stanic Harding Architecture and Interiors you can see below: a beautiful and modern structure, that retained the original Victorian facade, but opened it to a new world. The backside of the building faces north and offers beautiful views of the surrounding neighbourhood. Here are a few words from the architect: “The project was an exercise in exploring the contemporary reworking of the standard terrace model, within the confines of heritage constraints, while accommodating the needs of a young family. The main street entrance was relocated to the new portion of the building. This provided a strong circulation spine from which all other parts of the house are accessed. The children’s bedrooms are accessed from the entry area with a further stair linking to the master bedroom suite and study on the upper level. Visitors are brought down into the main living areas of the house as directly as possible via the open wide stair within the vertically oriented entry volume.” While the entertaining room runs from one side of the building to the other, the space needed to be opened to the outdoor space, creating an indoor/outdoor passage that fills the room with fresh air. A built-in sofa softens the step down in the living room and sets of stairs make the connection between the floors.

| How to Maximize your Interior Views with Outdoor Landscaping Posted: 01 Feb 2011 02:06 AM PST Have you ever realized the most pleasurable rooms in your house to be in are those that have beautiful views of the outside? While we think that plants and landscaping is strictly for the outdoors, remember they are admired from the inside of your home as well. Whether you live in a home surrounded by wooded land, beach or if you live on the corner of a busy intersection, your interiors can be maximized by the outdoor view. Here are some tips for improving your interiors with outdoor landscaping in mind.
Your interiors are waiting for you to take advantage of your outdoor greenery areas. Another good idea for adding visual interest to your interiors is to use ground cover or climbing vines for areas that are an eyesore. If you live in an urban area, or view unsightly brick walls, consider using window boxes outside of your windows for plants. If your bedroom window looks out onto an unsightly neighbor, plant a trellis with climbing ivy, before you know it, the inside of your home will feel like a paradise! Freshome reader's how do you transform your interiors with exterior greenery? We'd love to hear your comments. Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !

| Inspiration from Our Readers: Exquisute 80sqm Apartment in Israel Posted: 01 Feb 2011 01:10 AM PST We recently received some photos of a lovely apartment located in Tel Aviv, Israel from young designer Ron Benshoshan. He and his girlfriend recently bought this crib (which was initially in a very bad state) and redesigned it. Here are the pictures together with the description Ron sent us: In the living room we put up a brick wall with 2 spot-lights to show all the imperfections of the bricks. Beneath the TV is a floating unit which I built. I wanted a big clock on the wall made of an item that repeats its self in cycles of 12. Eventually time was the answer! So I put up 12 classic-looking alarm clocks which I painted candy apple green. I also made the big bulb light with the red cords above. Big windows light up the whole place and play well with the 2 shades of gray in the dining area. I fabricate a white collapsible table with bare metal legs that were grinded down so they would all shine differently from each other. The 2 chairs were found in the garbage. A bit of sanding, paint and a visit to the upholsterer and we now have two lovely 60 year old chairs with a modern touch.
The kitchen was closed off and stuffy. We tore down the wall and merged the kitchen, living room and dining are in to one mutual area. We like having people over and we wanted them to be able spread around comfortably but still be in that same mutual area. We wanted a white clean kitchen with a small island.
In the extra room I put up a vertical playing area for my 2 cats, now they don’t mess with my couch anymore. Painted one wall in red with a few stripes to compliment the corner and installed a wall to wall closet on the other side for lots of storage area. I fabricated a small table and made a metal pipe table lamp. Once the sun hits the red wall, the whole room lights up.
The bathroom was split up in to 2 smaller rooms. One was just the toilet and sink and the other was the bath. We joined the 2 rooms in to one long area. Where the toilet was is now a large shower. Above the bath was a permanent storage area. Not permanent anymore… I wanted a nice sleek faucet that would double up as a towel holder so I made one to that exactly. It’s connected to wall and separated from the tap.

The mix of timber and concrete makes for an interesting contrast and a strong visual effect. The house opens to an incredible pool, which is the main point of attraction. Here is more information from the architects: The interior finishes incorporate American Oak timber floors to the living areas, Grey Limestone honed stone floors to the circulation areas, Walnut veneered joinery, white polyurethane cupboards, Quartz kitchen benchtops and Marble slabs in the bathrooms to create a contemporary, sophisticated interior with a warm inviting feel.
