| A Modern Furniture Piece of Oriental Influences: The Pasha Chair Posted: 27 Jan 2011 06:29 AM PST Designed by Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci for manufacturer Pedrali, the Pasha chair comes with a delightful nouveau-aristocratic appearance, one that inspires both elegance and comfort. As seen on 3rings, the chair was made of injection-molded polycarbonate, which means this furniture piece can be adapted to both playful outdoor arrangements and stylish interiors. The transparent version of the design has a charming ethereal look which can remind one of the Ghost Chair. Its see-through nature is quite appealing and provocative. The other two models – glossy black and blinding white- add a sober touch and could be integrated in minimalist decor with spectacular results. Adding a cushion could ensure a more friendly and cozy look, especially if the chair is placed in the living room, in an environment dedicated to socializing.

| Long and Narrow Dwelling Design with a Provocative Shape Posted: 27 Jan 2011 05:19 AM PST Constructed in Sydney, Australia, on a small lot of 115 square meters, Casa Haines is a modern semi-detached dwelling based on a complete renovation of a single story family house. Located in the Newtown neighbourhood, the residence designed by architect Christopher Polly consists of a long and narrow living space, containing everything needed for a single family: a bedroom, bathroom, an open floor kitchen and dining area, a small study room, a laundry room and an outside deck leading to a beautiful garden. The structure of the residence allows a natural ventilation system, while the small but necessary garden ensures frisk air, fresh thoughts and relaxation. Plataforma Arquitectura presented the house as being a place with all the elements aligned in one continuous space wrapped around the rear interior volume. A narrow passage links the old part of the house to the newly added kitchen and also acts like a passage from the slightly raised front part of the house to the lowered back. Having a slightly slanted roof ensures natural light for the dining room, living room and kitchen with the help of strategically placed windows. The roof continues over the deck into the garden, which measures 58 square meters. Take a look at the pictures below and then help us figure out if there is enough space available for a comfortable living situation.

| Breathtaking Home in Norway Overlooking a Stunning Fjord Posted: 26 Jan 2011 11:53 PM PST WRB Architects have completed the Gunderson house in Haugesund, Norway. The residence takes advantage of everything its privileged environment has to offer. Here is a description from the architects: A stunning fjord site on Scandinavia's most western point is the background for this project. When we first visited the site a fairly new house occupied the southern part. As a result the remaining part of the plot ended up in a shadow while the sunny patio on the south side of the house was cramped up against the rocks and cut of from the ocean view. Our clients saw the site's potential and never had any doubts in tearing the house down. Our design leaves the southern side of the plot open by forming a transparent glassed shelter towards the ocean, protecting from sometimes strong wind from the north. By placing a concrete box with more closed functions towards the entrance road in the west, the courtyard was made even more secluded. Now the heart of the setup is made up by the roof covered patio with open fireplace and the heated pool, placed right where the old house once sat. The Gunderson House displays friendly interiors with interesting modern arrangements and the open plan living room contributes to a great socializing environment.

| Mind-Blowing: 8,000 Chopsticks Used by Yuya Ushida to Create a Retractable Sofa Posted: 26 Jan 2011 09:13 AM PST German based designer Yuya Ushida has recently completed Sofa_XXXX, an incredible product that is both contractible and retractile, which makes it highly versatile. According to Co.Design, the designer used no less than 8000 chopstick for this uncommon sofa, cut into four different lengths in order to form X-shaped components that could build the structure. All the elements war joined perfectly (check out the photos for amazing details), so much so that up to three people of 70 kilos each can sit together on the sofa without it being caused any damage. Moreover, the unusual looking furniture piece can be easily transformed into a chair and then back again by expanding (pulling) and contracting (pushing) the structure. We’ve also uploaded a video with a demonstration. Have a look and let us know what you think of this crazy design project.

| Original and Modern Armchair Inspired by the Art of Origami Posted: 26 Jan 2011 08:03 AM PST Oru Chair was designed by architect and designer Ramón Esteve for company Joquer. This unusual chair displays a highly contemporary look and has an uncommon inspiration source: the art of Origami. Its shape is truly remarkable and is based on a series of asymmetrical geometric shapes which subtly contribute to an unmistakable exterior design, as described by Daily Icon. The technical specifications reveal that the chair features wooden frame padded on the exterior with stress-resistant polyurethane and an interior made of several densities of foam. Various color finishes are available, but right now the manufactures are only showcasing these two vivid models. The chair also comes with an ottoman, which has the ability of bringing a sensible increase in the user’s comfort. How do you appreciate the design of these Origami armchairs?
