| Dynamic Home Contrasting with the Peacefulness of Kamala Beach Posted: 13 Jan 2011 04:43 AM PST Villa Amanzi was created by design team Original Vision Ltd ( project architects: Adrian McCarroll, Waiman Cheung, Jamie Jamieson) and is located in Kamala Beach, Phuket, Thailand. A heaven for those in need of a quiet way of living, Kamala Beach is a spectacular location, with plenty of things to offer. The defining elements for Villa Amanzi are the view and the rock, according to the architects: They dominate at every juncture. They resonate on first approach, through the migration from public to private space, in the living and in the family areas, in the gardens, in the bedrooms; and they continue to command respect down the tropical jungle steps that arrive at a secluded rock platform, flanked by the same seam that welcomed you 60m above. Constant reference to these elements instills a feeling of solidity that contrasts with the openness of the house, reinforcing the dynamism and vibrancy that pays homage to the magic of the location. | Playing with Design: House of Card Table by Mauricio Arruda Posted: 13 Jan 2011 02:41 AM PST For today we would like to present this ingenious House of Cards table by Brazilian designer-architect Mauricio Arruda, an idea as exciting as it is creative. Here is an interesting description of the process of production from the designer’s page: “To manufacture the table, a process of laser cutting was used. This technology created a perfect reproduction of a deck of cards in scale 13:1. Subsequently, steel cards were welded one to one forming a second‐story house of cards that serves as an under frame. These frames feature a versatile look to the piece, since they are capable of supporting different sized tabletops. The design options were made to accommodate form 6 to 10 seats . The images of the playing cards are printed individually in the plates of steel, which allows each table to have a different configuration, becoming single pieces. They are assembled like a house of cards in a real cards game, where each piece is drawn randomly.” What a clever way to bring freshness and charm to a room!- via yatzer
