| Refinement and Comfort in a Beautiful Home Overlooking Lake Austin Posted: 09 Jan 2011 03:12 AM PST The Peninsula Residence was designed by Bercy Chen Studio and has a privileged location that allows beautiful vies of Lake Austin, Texas. You are looking at a makeover of an 1980's home which initially did not take advantage of the positive features of its environment. Here are a few words from the architects: “The challenge was to develop a sensitive and inventive result out of a pre-existing condition. Through the use of glass, steel, detailing and light the home has been adaptively reinvented. Reflection, translucency, color and geometry conspire to bring natural light deep into the house. A new solarium, pool, and vegetative roof are tuned to interact with the natural context. Exterior materials and refined detailing of the roof structure give the volume clean lines and a bold presence, while abstracting the form of the original dormers and gable roof.” The interior design is diverse, with plenty of inspiring details. A generous pool contributes to the overall game of form that this residence plays and offers a unique relaxation spot right next to the lake.

| Superb Spacious Residence with Industrial Design Elements Posted: 08 Jan 2011 10:40 AM PST Elaine Cecconi is both the designer and the owner of this brilliant residence known as 6a Brockton House. Part of the Canadian design firm Cecconi Simone, Elaine Cecconi knew exactly what she wanted and how to accomplish the ideal interior design for her home, built in Toronto, Canada, on a quiet residential street. The residence was build between two other houses, with not much space available. This led to an amazing design incorporating lines and volumes that remind of a warehouse or a factory. Even the huge facade windows of the four storey home have a clear resemblance of those of an industrial building. The interior was cleverly designed to make use of fine materials and divide the space according to the functions needed: “The extensive use of Corian, honed concrete floors and Brazilian Ipe speak to the durability of the residence, while clever room dividers, abundant storage and the oversize kitchen respond to the needs of everyday living. The flexible floor plan provides up to 4 bedrooms, and can easily be adapted for creative or professional use.” Modern and spacious, the 6a Brockton House has every room detailed with clean and contemporary lines. Especially the kitchen makes a statement of professional design and adds to the general feeling of overwhelming beauty.

Whether it's to add a vibrant atmosphere or it is to liven up a rather dull décor, red can do all of this and more! Red can be played up as the main focal point of the room, or it can be used in bursts of accent color in a subdued room. Whichever is your choice, red can bring about a playful energy that may be missing from your home. Look at these suggestions for bringing red into your décor.
Knowing the limits of red: When used as an accent wall, red can be eye catching, but it can also be overbearing to the inhabitants. If you choose to use red as an entire wall, consider using a deeper tone of red. Burgundy, Bordeaux, currant red, and other deeper reds are easier to absorb than a fire engine red, or Corvette red! If you do like the saturated bright red, try to tone down the furnishings with neutrals in whites and blacks. This will help the eye not get distracted in several areas of the room. Make a statement: Have a room that has a lot of colors but not sure which one to make a focal point? Red! In rooms like home libraries, entertainment rooms, and home theaters, bring red into the décor to make a statement. These rooms are for entertaining, lounging, or finding a good book to sink into. One red chair, a desk, or just a lamp can pull the entire room together with just that one piece of furniture.
Use red in accents around your home: If you like to add whimsy in one room and sophistication in another, consider using red accessories to compliment your decor. A red area carpet in a pale neutral room makes a beautiful conversational piece, without the room being overpowered by the color. At home the entire room doesn't have to be red, shots of red in furniture, décor and table settings is enough and subtle. Use red in a formal dining room where you plan on entertaining, it will make your guests more engaged in conversation and ready for the meal to be served. Red in the dining room can serve as a welcomed invitation for hospitality, without you having to say a word!
