Fun and Original Furniture Design: Split Personality Sofa Posted: 09 Dec 2010 06:32 AM PST Danish designer Ditte Maigaard managed to capture human emotions in her work. She created a metaphorical piece of furniture in the form of a unique sofa: “The furniture is padded in lanes which could be used to create a customizable coloring on the back by allowing the lanes to be changed by the end user.” The sofa is based on the differences in a relationship. Different personalities like different things, so why not gather all the things in one great sofa? The grey side balances the colourful back of the sofa and offers a playful and fun method to make a statement. Meant to be enjoyed in all its glory, it comes highly recommended to be placed in the middle of the room chosen to display it. It can even act like a room divider. Anyway you would choose to use it, it still has a hot design.

Creative Renovation: Modern with a Side of Ranch by Hufft Projects Posted: 09 Dec 2010 04:09 AM PST Located in Leawood, Texas, Modern with a Side of Ranch is an “aggressive renovation” project within the framework of the existing ranch style home. Designed by Hufft Projects, the residence does its best to conserve and highlight the old elements which make a pleasant contrast with the new additions. The renovation consists of a box-shaped volume which was placed on top of the existing construction. Housing a playroom and two children’s bedrooms, the extension was welcomed by the family members, especially by the two young boys who enjoy their tree house-like playroom. The architects also reinvented the interior design, adding a new kitchen island and removing the partition walls between the living, dining and kitchen areas for extra space. Can you tell that the project below is a blend of old and new?

A Tribute to Originality in Architecture: The Pentagonal House Posted: 08 Dec 2010 11:43 AM PST Recently completed by Kazuya Morita Architecture, the Pentagonal House comes to defy our perception of residential symmetries. This original project was especially developed for a young couple and is located near Nagoya, Japan. Its exterior was designed to harmonize with that of the buildings near by and it has a contemporary appearance: To respect for and harmonize with neighboring environment, we delivered traditional hipped roof as many neighboring houses has. This characteristic pentagonal geometry of plan was delivered to have the maximum space in this site and adequate open space around it. Five main structural walls were set in radially, and it makes possible to take in the outside spaces as extension of interior spaces. In the center of the architecture, radial walls were cut off in dome shape, to make space for a dining table. Besides delivering this characteristic geometry ( it is a kind of technology) to the plan of this architecture, we tried to use the most usual wooden structure system what most Japanese houses are constructed nowadays. Walls were finished with round corner in Japanese traditional white plaster. The interiors look amazing with plenty of light invading all the rooms of the house. The only thing missing here seems to be privacy, but that is currently not an issue for the couple.

Exquisite Gift : Clock for an Architect by Daniel Weil Posted: 08 Dec 2010 07:58 AM PST The fascination for reducing objects to their components determined designer Daniel Weil to create this exquisite product. Clock for an Architect is a one-of-a-kind design and it was especially developed as a gift. The main side of the clock was made of nickel-plated brass and silver, the mechanism is powered by a single AA battery and turned by visible rubble belts. We find this unusual clock to have a striking elegance, despite its designer’s interest for emphasizing on how things work: "Objects like clocks are both prosaic and profound. Prosiac because of their ubiquity in everyday life, profound because of the mysterious nature of time itself. Time can be reduced to hours, minutes and seconds, just as a clock can be reduced to its component parts. This doesn't explain time, but in a way simply exposes its mysterious essence." We’ve also attached two of Daniel’s sketches for a glimpse of how this idea was born. Have a look ! – via SpaceInvading
