Ventless Fireplaces, an Innovative Way to Warm Up the Atmosphere Posted: 03 Dec 2010 04:55 AM PST We’ve recently received an e-mail from Hearth Cabinet™, a fireplace company based in New York, showcasing their innovative Ventless Fireplace: According to the designers,” too often consumers mistakenly believe that they cannot have a fireplace because their home or apartment does not have a chimney or flue. “With Hearth Cabinet™, it is possible for any residence or commercial site to feature the warm glow of a real, crackling fire. The Hearth Cabinet™ is a ventless fireplace system that burns a patent pending alcohol fuel cartridge. You don’t need a gas line or a chimney and it does not use electricity. There is a real flame but there is no smoke. To light a fire you open the lock on the patent pending safety door, insert the cartridge into the holder and light it with a long match or BBQ lighter. You get a beautiful golden yellow fire without smoke that lasts about two hours. When the fire is out you can recycle the metal cartridge. The system comes with a snuffer plate so you can put the fire out at any time.” The ventless fireplaces are said to be 100% safe and eco-friendly. They are available in traditional and contemporary standard modular designs that fit any style surround or mantel. For now, the company’s products have received approval in New York, but this idea definitely creates opportunities for more and more spaces to have access to a cozy room with a fireplace.

Storing Furniture in Secret: Wooden Heap by Boris Dennler Posted: 03 Dec 2010 03:23 AM PST Wooden Heap is a captivating furniture project developed by Boris Dennler, a designer from Switzerland. The two wooden compact blocks below have a hidden storage function, one that is hard to presume when first looking at the designs. Here is a description of the creative concept behind this project from Boris: The Wooden Heap project wants to invite the public to see beyond appearances. Create the unexpected and the surprise. Remove any traces of furniture which hides inside. It makes reference to the radical designers of the movement of the anti-design of the 70′s. It is also a wink from all the objects since antiquity that hide their real function: the sham, the misleading appearance, as a hollowed out book hiding a weapon or a tip-up wall looking onto a secret passage. We like to think of these cabinets as secret hiding places with an artful appearance that make stashing unwanted objects a treat.

Incredibly Diverse Eco-Retreat in Tunisia for Spa Enthusiasts Posted: 03 Dec 2010 12:32 AM PST Dar Hi is a hotel like no other. Located in a tiny village named Nafta, at the edge of the Sahara desert in Tunisia and overlooking a palm-tree oasis, Dar Hi is a place where one can get away and enjoy a thorough mind and body rejuvenation. The uncommon project (eco-retreat and spa) was parented by Parisian designer Matali Crasset, who stated: I wanted to develop a small hotel in the desert where you could slow down, take the time to reflect and enjoy simple things. Nefta is only a two-hour-and-fifteen-minute flight from Paris, Lyon, Nice or Milan, but you feel like you’ve arrived at the end of the world. Dar Hi has a very diverse interior design and consists of 17 boldly colored accommodation units based on 4 different concepts: air (elevated houses overlooking the oasis), troglodyte (rooms with furniture made from stone), dune (rooms located close to the sand) and traditional. There is an odd and fascinating room for every taste within this highly intriguing hotel. Check out the photos for stunning design details!- via designboom
