Original Glass Coffe Table Made from Pipe Wrenches Posted: 30 Nov 2010 07:34 AM PST Here is a cool example of how unique interior design objects can be produced with a few useless garage tools, a little will and imagination. The Pipe Wrench Coffee Table was designed by Jonathan Niemuth and has a very original appearance. Its legs consist of interlocked pipe wrenches tightly connected together. The red criss-crossed tools create a strong contrast with the delicate transparent tabletop above. This type of table can be integrated in any modern interior with an “out-of-the-ordinary” look and can be complemented by other original “industrial” decorations. We don’t know if the hight of the table is adjustable- this would certainly be an interesting characteristic that would add functionality to the design. So how about it? Did we stir your need for handcrafting?

Cliff Top House with Interesting Architecture and Breathtaking Views Posted: 30 Nov 2010 02:43 AM PST Altamira Residence was designed by Marmol Radziner Architecture and is located in a picturesque landscape, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in Palos Verdes, California. With a sinuous, uncommon shape and concrete walls, the house contrasts the lively colors of the ocean and generous “backyard” pool, creating an amazing sight. The clients wanted a home that would ensure a maximum level of comfort and relaxation. The contemporary interior design features plenty of wooden elements which contribute to an overall warm atmosphere. With large, airy rooms and wide windows. this project manages to maximize the natural illumination while providing a delightful living setting. Some of the furniture elements are unusual and surprising, such as the suspended bookshelf in the kitchen (probably filled with cookbooks), the giant oval pendant lamp in the dining room or the immense wooden table below. Be sure to let us know if there are any other furniture details you enjoyed.

Eye-Catching Stickers for Redesigning a Home’s Personality Posted: 30 Nov 2010 01:43 AM PST Sometimes finding a quick solutions for turning around the way a room feels is a bit difficult. Here is an interesting idea that can do just that. These super size decals were created by Interior Stickers for decorating home appliances. The graphic designs can stick to almost anything, as long as it is a smooth surface. They can be applied on the fridge, kitchen counter-tops, washing machines, microwaves, garbage bins and sliding doors. Aside from enriching the kitchen work area, the decals can contribute to creating a fabulous art work that can be framed and used at home or in the office. We particularly like the nature laptop stickers which help personalize any computer, while also protecting it from scratches and wear. The decals are not only eye-catching and easy to use, but also quite affordable. You can find more information on the costs on the official company web page here.

Perfect Balance of Architecture in Sweden – The H-House Posted: 30 Nov 2010 12:54 AM PST This private residence, the H House by WRB Architects in the archipelago of Stockholm is a perfect balance of architectural elements that protect the structure from the harsh climate. Corridors for the wind were created when the architects created the H shaped house concept. They took advantaje of nature`s elements and bended them into an amazing shape. An open fireplace helps extend the summers by creating a link between the outside and the inside with the help of a covered patio area with one wall. Concrete and rusty steel were the prime materials for the outside of the building. The interior – exterior game with water and the fireplace resulted in a construction story of elements: fire, water, wind and the plain earth and ocean. The terrace protected from three sides offers a short summer enjoyment period but the sunny days are enjoyed to the fullest with the magnificent view. On the inside, the home has a very contemporary feel and bright furniture contrasts with the dark decorations to accentuate the idea of light and dark from near the arctic circle. materials used on the outside, like untreated pine wood and oiled wenge come to life on the inside through the wooden flooring. The half-inside terrace gives room to the sun to make his way through the cladding and warm up the entire house. Light is caught all throughout the day by the huge windows and a clear view of the ocean. Concrete and wood, light and darkness, water, fire and fresh air – all these elements give life to this amzing home in Sweden.

How to Choose Relaxing Seating for your Master Bedroom Posted: 29 Nov 2010 11:42 PM PST Your master bedroom should be a relaxing retreat area that you can leisurely enjoy at anytime of the day. Seating in this room should be considered carefully, or the bed becomes the place for seating and sleeping, which isn't always relaxing. The size of your master bedroom, seating preference, and decorative style will be amongst a few factors when choosing the right seating. Determine if you will use your seating for reading, relaxing, or for decoration. Whichever is your preference, here are tips to help you choose the seating perfect for you.
Your master bedroom seating should be versatile and beautiful. Determine your needs, space, and what types of seating you enjoy. For space saving ideas, consider buying storage ottomans that can open for storage of books and magazines. If your bed sits high off the floor, consider movable seating that can roll under the bed, and be pulled out when needed. Don't let space be a deterrent of why you can't have beautiful seating in your master bedroom. Freshome readers tell us what is your favorite seating in your master bedroom. We love hearing your comments. Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !

Original Family Home in Poland “Modernizing” Traditional Architecture Posted: 29 Nov 2010 10:15 AM PST This unusual looking single family home comes from Wizja Architects and is located in Burów, a nice village close to Krakow, Poland. From afar, the residence looks like a giant wooden monolith which makes an intriguing contrast with its landscape. Here is some interesting information from the architects: “The main idea behind the project, was to create a contemporary interpretation of a traditional single family house of the Małopolska region. In an attempt to achieve this, we have simplified the local building form, through a search for clear building edges. The façade materials were restricted to Siberian larch accompanied by glass. The retaining wall in the southern part of the site, was made from raw reinforced concrete. One of the most noticeable building's features is a 3,2 x 4,5 m window, that came from a clients desire to have a panoramic view from the living room on a distant airport, which enables watching airplanes start or land.” We wish the architects had made more photos of the interior design public, as the one room showcased below looks absolutely charming. Interesting approach for a modern country home, wouldn’t you agree ? (Photos by © Wojciech Kryński )- via Arch Daily

Cute Clocks Inspired by Wildlife – Wooden Safari Collection by Nir Meiri Posted: 29 Nov 2010 08:21 AM PST The Wooden Safari Clock Collection from Nir Meiri reminds us of a jungle story. Different animals served as inspiration for this dishy collection. Imagining different heads of animals like deer, bears, walruses and giraffes, Nir Meiri puts a smile on our faces. Unique characters made this collection a modern addition to a blank wall, borrowing their fun and creative design to our modern homes – wooden toys used in the past as one of the few means to have fun are now transformed into decorative objects. Two layers of dark wood encapsulate a smaller layer of lighter wood to form a simple representation of a creature of the woods. The wood and the animal inspiration create a fairytale background for the collection and reassure the need for fun characters to brighten up our days.
