Classic and Elegant or Modern and Cool Levitating Lamps Posted: 16 Nov 2010 06:02 AM PST Crealev are the ones who designed these fun Levitating Lamps. Based on magnetic levitation, the lamps atract attention while defying gravity. The company`s levitating technologies evolved from a professional collaboration between Angela Jansen and Ger Jansen – daughter and father. They combined their expertise in Dutch design and mechatronics to develop this levitating technology. These levitating lamps, part of the LOS! Collection, are either classic or modern in design, touching opposing poles when it comes to the looks, but using the same amazing technology. There are two beautiful designs to choose from: LOS#1 and LOS#2 are the two different design routes taken by Crealev. Using LED lights, Los#1 was created in a classic design, to accentuate the combination between vintage design and modern technology, while Los#2 has a contemporary shape. The lamps feature gaps of 3,4cm each and come in black and white. Los#2 was born after the classic design, as a response to modern visual trends: “The philosophy behind this model is that it adapts it’s environment, therefore we call it the Chameleon.” Both models are beautiful in their own way and the good news is that no matter if you like classic or contemporary design, there is a Los out there for you.

Small Home Redesign with Delighful Contemporary Additions Posted: 16 Nov 2010 04:31 AM PST Potrero Hill Residence comes from Aidlin Darling Design and is a restoration of an 1950′s home. The architects reinvented the 1650 square feet home (253 sqm), transforming the existing building into an open modern residence. Embedded in a beautiful garden, efforts were conducted to maximize the views, by creating large windows that also allow good lighting throughout the day: “Mute stucco facades were opened up with expanses of glass, capturing panoramic views to the west, and intimate gardens to the east. A sculptural interplay of material, light and space extends the perceived and implied volume of the building, making a small home feel spacious and spatially dynamic.” It almost seems like the indoor and exterior spaces merge, making it possible for the inhabitants to enjoy relaxing nature activities whenever they please. The interior design is alluring and quite diverse, with plenty of contemporary elements that add value and charm.

Incredible Handmade Lighting Fixtures from Jacco Maris Design Posted: 16 Nov 2010 01:35 AM PST The Montone Collection of Lights from Jacco Maris are a dream: twisting shapes take your breath away while they sinuously create an amazing array of lighting fixtures. Striking design makes these wonderful chandeliers stand out on any ceiling. Subtle elegance fills the space that each piece of lighting is occupying. Ribbons made from metal gracefully shroud the supporting structure made from thin metal bars that each have a light bulb at the end. The thin undulating metal strips are actually the most important trademark of Jacco Maris Design. These are all handmade lighting fixtures, beautifully created by hand by Jacco Maris, in collaboration with Ben Quaedvlieg. Stainless steel, black steel and brass, the distinctive materials used by the designer, add to the glamorous effect of the lights. Used in any space, residential or commercial, the lights from Montone Collection will be the primary focus point. This is how Jacco Maris describes the collection: “Cohesive force. Ultimate coordination. Unity in balance. Enchanting effect. Moment of contemplation…”

Double Chaise Longue, a Comfy Adaptable Armchair Posted: 15 Nov 2010 11:49 PM PST Sand & Birch have recently launched the Double Armchair, an original furniture piece with a high level of comfort. Here is more from the official press release: Did you ever wonder about how primitives might elegantly have a nap after long and exhausting hunting and fruit picking days? Maybe the first chaise longue in history looked just like this: a huge dinosaur bone abandoned by a predator – or maybe buried by a glaciation – found by men and decorated with leather to serve as a relaxing couch after working hard. Double chaise longue is covered with alcantara or soft leather, and edged along the sides with big leather seams. It is a comfortable, roomy and funny chaise longue, perfect both for one or two people. We think the armchair has a fun and creative appearance and would go great in a large variety of modern interiors. How do you find it?
