Classic and Elegant or Modern and Cool Levitating Lamps Posted: 16 Nov 2010 06:02 AM PST Crealev are the ones who designed these fun Levitating Lamps. Based on magnetic levitation, the lamps atract attention while defying gravity. The company`s levitating technologies evolved from a professional collaboration between Angela Jansen and Ger Jansen – daughter and father. They combined their expertise in Dutch design and mechatronics to develop this levitating technology. These levitating lamps, part of the LOS! Collection, are either classic or modern in design, touching opposing poles when it comes to the looks, but using the same amazing  technology. There are two beautiful designs to choose from: LOS#1 and LOS#2 are the two different design routes taken by Crealev. Using LED lights, Los#1 was created in a classic design, to accentuate the combination between vintage design and modern technology, while Los#2 has a contemporary shape. The lamps feature gaps of 3,4cm each and come in black and white. Los#2 was born after the classic design, as a response to modern visual trends: “The philosophy behind this model is that it adapts it’s environment, therefore we call it the Chameleon.” Both models are beautiful in their own way and the good news is that no matter if you like classic or contemporary design, there is a Los out there for you. Small Home Redesign with Delighful Contemporary Additions Posted: 16 Nov 2010 04:31 AM PST Potrero Hill Residence comes from Aidlin Darling Design and is a restoration of an 1950′s home. The architects reinvented the 1650 square feet home (253 sqm), transforming the existing building into an open modern residence. Embedded in a beautiful garden, efforts were conducted to maximize the views, by creating large windows that also allow good lighting throughout the day: “Mute stucco facades were opened up with expanses of glass, capturing panoramic views to the west, and intimate gardens to the east. A sculptural interplay of material, light and space extends the perceived and implied volume of the building, making a small home feel spacious and spatially dynamic.” It almost seems like the indoor and exterior spaces merge, making it possible for the inhabitants to enjoy relaxing nature activities whenever they please. How to Choose a Dynamic Kitchen Cabinet Style Posted: 16 Nov 2010 02:56 AM PST Your kitchen cabinets are the first part of your kitchen that people focus on when they enter. Whether that is good or bad depends on happy you are with your current kitchen cabinets. If you are trying to choose another type of cabinet style there are plenty of choices to choose from.  Although, you will need to make a few key decisions first – cabinet material, color, door style, and decorative accessories are all important. Read on to find out how to choose a dynamic kitchen cabinet style. What décor style is your kitchen: Depending on your decorative style of your kitchen will be the driving factor in choosing a cabinet style. Is your home traditional with ornate wood details and old time charm? You will prefer cabinetry that has fine detailing in the doors and possibly intricate door hardware. Is your home minimalistic and modern with very little detailing and sleek finishes? You may prefer a lacquer luster to your kitchen cabinets or even metal may be more your direction of style. Choose a material: The most common material is wood for kitchen cabinets. Wood is durable, versatile, and can be stained or painted and can have a million different looks. Other materials include metal/stainless steel, plastic laminate, and lower quality MDF or particle board. Depending on your lifestyle and budget will help you decide on a material that suits your style and wallet. Metal cabinets and wood are more expensive than plastic laminate and particle board. Colors, colors, colors: Once you've decided on a material, it's time to choose the color. Wood stains for cabinetry comes in a variety of colors. Choose from light bamboo colored stain to the darkest espresso mahogany color. Wood can also be painted with semi-gloss to high-gloss enamel paint, and therefore any color is your option.  If you choose metal, you'll want to visit a metal cabinet manufacturer for stock colors that they sell, or the traditional exposed stainless steel is gorgeous on its own. The door style makes the cabinet: When choosing cabinetry the door style is what you're really choosing for your decoration. To find cabinet doors, bring home samples or pictures from your local cabinetry dealer. Choose minimal lines for modern kitchens, exposed simple lines for Craftsman style, and intricate detailed doors for a traditional look. Many cabinetry companies will have a sales person that can bring samples to your home to compare in your kitchen. This is a great idea if you are wavering on a style! Accessories for your cabinets: Door pulls; crown molding and wine racks can be added to your cabinets for a finished style. For homes that prefer simplicity, long slender door pulls should be considered. To save money, have your cabinets installed by a professional, and do the door pulls yourself.  Home improvement stores have a wide selection, as well as custom hardware can be ordered online and installed by you for a fraction of a professional installer. Accessories can take your cabinets from ordinary to one-of-a-kind! Customize your kitchen experience by adding cabinets that reflect your personal style.  Just as there is an unlimited number of colors, cabinet styles too are limitless! If you love the feel of free flowing interiors and subtle hues over bold ones, your décor style may be fit for feminine qualities. Read on to see how your home can benefit from an eclectic mix of feminine amenities and décor. Soft muted colors: While some would think that only using pink adds a feminine appeal, soft muted tones of any color are feminine. Thus is the beauty of the color spectrum. Choose your favorite color and use a muted or grayed down version of this color to create a soft palette of color in any room. Pair up the colors with darker or contrasting accents to give the room weight and visual interest. Curvilinear form: Feminine decorative qualities lend themselves to free form and curving lines as opposed to strict geometries.
