10 Beautiful “Pierced” Table Lamps from Stellavie Posted: 05 Nov 2010 06:44 AM PDT We recently received an e-mail from Stellavie, a graphic design studio from Hamburg, Germany, informing us of their new lampshade collection. We enjoyed their work and decided to showcase 10 of our favourite designs. But before that, here is the project description they sent us: “The lampshades are lasercut with various patterns (abstract but delicately arranged, precious embroidery transformed into contemporary pixel-baroque) on the most beautiful paper we can find: the papers are sometimes structured, sometimes shimmering, changing in colour depending on the perspective and always of the highest standard. Within our approach we are fascinated with a multitude of directions: graphic design, typography, interior and product design – in general: a love for details and surprising ideas. Graphic design meets clever understanding of materials meets modern production techniques meets interior design ideas. Carefully crafted design is translated into glowing shades of beauty.” Do you like the atmosphere these lampshades manage to create?

Beautiful Home “Defended” by its Green Environment: Eva Street Residence Posted: 05 Nov 2010 05:39 AM PDT Eva Street Residence was designed by architect Chris Cobb and is located in Austin, Texas. Chris says that the one of the biggest challenges when developing the plans for this project was a 150+ oak tree, situated in the middle of the property. Instead of bringing it down, the construction was built in strong relationship with the tree, sheltering the people inside without making them foreigners in their environment. Here is more information from the architect: “The house is clad in Brazilian Redwood siding and corrugated weathering steel, which adds scale, texture, and a melding of the house with its surrounding landscape while at the same time softening the sharp, crisp geometry of the structure. The wood cladding extends into the interior of the house, which is also defined by dark chocolate bamboo floors, crisp white walls, meticulous custom made cabinets, and clean detailing.” With all that lush vegetation around it, the home looks secluded and protected . Winter Dream Home in a Small Village in California: Sugarbowl Residence Posted: 05 Nov 2010 04:28 AM PDT Here is a home that made us remember the beautiful aspects of winter. Sugarbowl Residence was designed by John Maniscalco Architecture and is located in a picturesque mountain village in California. The home is said to be the product of its environment and it was developed on two levels. The ground floor houses the bedroom and service spaces while the first level hosts beautiful living areas with unobstructed views of the dreamy snowy landscape. The large windows on the upper floor create a strong indoor-outdoor connection and turn this home into a perfect location for observing the unleashed spectacles of nature. We can’t help noticing just how welcoming the interiors of this home are. Wood is present in every room, creating a warm and cuddly atmosphere. The fireplace is particularly inviting and goes well with the modern feel of the living room. After seeing this home, how much do you crave for a genuine winter holiday?

How to Choose the Perfect Bed for your Guest Room Posted: 05 Nov 2010 01:03 AM PDT Your guest room in your home can be a physical room, or it could be the sleeper sofa you have in your living room. Wherever it is located the term 'guest room' refers to a space that guests would be welcome to stay at your home overnight. The most important piece of furniture is their bed. Depending on how much space you have in your home and your budget will dictate how your guest bed will look and function. Here are tips to help you choose the perfect bed for your guest room.
Your guest room can have a bed that is inviting and comfortable with the proper planning. If your guest room shares a space with an office, the bed can be multifunctional for when guests are not staying at your home. The idea behind the perfect bed is to make it welcoming, but to also make you feel like you're passing on your hospitality to your house guest. Regardless of the size of your home, there's always room for a visiting guest. Freshome reader's where do you have your guest room? Is it a dedicated space or do you share it with another space? Bang! or How to Literally Shoot Off the Lights Before Bed Posted: 04 Nov 2010 01:08 PM PDT If you thought clapping your hands in order to turn off the lights was cool, wait ’till you see this crazy idea. Bang! comes from Bitplay and is a lamp like any other at a first glance. The only thing that could arouse suspicion is the fact that it doesn’t come with a switch, but with a gun instead. When the user no longer needs light, he or she can simply take the “white weapon”, point it at the lamp and shoot. This action will determine the lights to go off and the lampshade to move sideways. A second gun trigger will have the reverse effect. This idea could be implemented in teens’ bedroom, but adults could also be targeted (we are referring to their consumer potential here). What do you think? Could this idea compete with clapping when it comes to turning off the light every night?

Original Home with Charming Design Details in South Africa Posted: 04 Nov 2010 10:08 AM PDT Designed by architects Werner van der Meulen, this beautiful residence is located in South Africa, in a small urban settlement. A single photo of the exterior is enough to demonstrate this home’s originality. The horizontal window “shields” made of wood have a particular charm and give the home a personalized look. With floor to ceiling windows, the indoor-outdoor connection is optimized without affecting the privacy of the inhabitants. Water was an important factor when laying out the outdoor space. Aside from the generous pool complimented by a dining area, the residence is enriched by various “oases”. The interior design is highly modern, with beautiful contemporary furniture arrangements and inspiring details. What intrigued us is the barbed wire in the last photo (a common addition to fences in South Africa) which contrasts heavily with the overall design of the house.
